Grestel customizes tile façade for the new Casa das Associações in Aveiro

For the first time, Grestel has designed and manufactured fine stoneware tiles for an urban intervention project, carried out in partnership with the Confraria dos Ovos Moles, the Confraria de S. Gonçalo, ADERAV, and other companies.

The project aimed to enhance the building by transforming its façade with custom-relief tiles, preserving the tradition of Portuguese tile-making, which remains a hallmark of the city’s architecture.

Under the COSTA NOVA brand, Grestel’s main proprietary label, three tiles were created to represent each of the associations now headquartered in the space. All tiles were produced in Ecogres®, an innovative and fully sustainable ceramic body made from recycled materials, including ceramic surplus and by-products from other industries.

The intervention on this historic building’s façade has already become a point of interest for local residents and has the potential to become a notable tourist attraction in the city, known for its ceramic heritage and Portuguese tile architecture.

This pioneering project combines cultural promotion and preservation with sustainability, potentially opening a new business niche for Grestel – “COSTA NOVA Ecotiles in Ecogres” – creating ceramic tiles for the construction sector made from recycled fine stoneware and fully sustainable.

The new headquarters of the Confraria dos Ovos Moles, Confraria de São Gonçalo, and ADERAV – Association for the Study and Defense of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Aveiro Region – was inaugurated on Saturday, January 15, and is located at 27 Rua Homem Cristo Filho, 3810-120 Aveiro.
